Monterey, California by Train

Amtrak's Coast Starlight, scenic train ride, stops in downtown Salinas, 20 miles away from Monterey downtown, while it is on route between Los Angeles, Seatle and Washington. Southbound train #11 comes to Salinas daily around midday, while the northbound train #14 arrives in the evening. Amtrak provides a short bus ride from Salinas to five points in Monterey where the most prominent and convenient stop is in downtown Monterey at the Monterey Transit Plaza Bus Stop.

Driving to Monterey

All routes to Monterey are scenic and spectacular in its own ways. Highway One runs from San Francisco to Los Angeles and offers breathtaking views of the Pacific coastline. Highway 101 runs down the valley corridor and gives you opportunity pass through many agricultural cities.
