Greetings!
The month of July has arrived, which means
half of 2008 is history and the vacation
season is well under way. July is the time of
backyard cookouts, lazy naps in the hammock
under the shade of a tree and more
importantly it is the month that freedom
revolves around. Independence and freedom
rings true from Canada to the United States
to Peru and points south because many have
fought for and won their freedom.
As you will see in this Newsletter, there is
no better place to both celebrate the spirit
of the Fourth of July and the beauty of
freedom than here on the Monterey Peninsula.
Whether you plan to spend a day or a week, we
welcome you to enjoy the natural beauty, the
restaurants, the history and our summertime
events.

Evita
Forest Theatre
6/28/2008 - 7/27/2008
Argentina's controversial First Lady is the
subject of this dynamic musical masterpiece.
As an illegitimate fifteen year old, Eva
escaped her dirt-poor existence for the
bright lights of Buenos Aires. Driven by
ambition and blessed with charisma, she was a
starlet at twenty-two, the president's
mistress at twenty-four, First Lady at
twenty-seven, and dead at thirty-three. Eva
Peron "saint to the working-class, reviled by
the aristocracy and mistrusted by the
military" was destined to leave a fascinating
political legacy unique in the 20th century.
Told through a compelling score that fuses
haunting chorales with exuberant Latin, pop
and jazz influences, EVITA creates an
arresting theatrical portrait as complex as
the woman herself.

the result of dreams measured in lifetimes.
They often reflect taste, imagination, and
ingenuity in solving practical problems. Some
are small and simple as a boat. Others are
complex and multi-functional. The best relate
gracefully to Carmel's coastal landscape and
simplicity of life.

What is Tough Enough to Wear Pink?
Tough Enough to Wear Pink (TETWP) is the
brainchild of Terry Wheatley, a breast cancer
survivor, and Karl Stressman, Director of
Special Events for Wrangler. This yearlong,
western-industry-wide fundraiser to raise
awareness and funds for breast cancer
research kicked off at the Wrangler National
Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas on December 10,
2005. While pink is not typically associated
with rough and rugged cowboys and cowgirls,
this program has been a phenomenal success.
In 2006, Rodeos across the US raised over $1
million dollars collectively and over $2.5
million in 2007 for this worthy cause with
the money impacting local organizations of
the rodeo's choice; since 2006, the
California Rodeo Salinas Association donated
over $34,000 to the Breast Cancer Assistance
Group of the Monterey Peninsula.
How can you show support?
WEAR PINK: Wear Pink to the July 17, 2008
performance of the California Rodeo. $1 of
each ticket sold that night will go to TETWP.
EAT BARBECUE: Purchase tickets for the
July 17, 2008 Round Up Day Barbecue at the
California Rodeo Salinas. The barbecue will
be held in the Bull Xing tent from 3 to
6:30pm. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for
children 12 and under. $1 will be donated to
TETWP for each ticket sold.
