Point Piños Lighthouse

The Point Piños Lighthouse is located on the northern most tip of the Monterey Peninsula. This point of land, marking the entrance to Monterey Bay, was a definite hazard to the Mariner. The stone lighthouse was built and put into service in February 1, 1855.

The building, lenses and prisms of the light are all original. It is the oldest continuously operating lighthouse on the west coast and is listed on the national register of historic places.

The Point Sur Light station is located 19 miles south of Carmel-by-the-Sea just off Highway One.

Built in 1889, it used its kerosene lamp and steam fog whistle to warn vessels. It was outfitted with a modern aero beacon in 1994. Today it is still an important coastal landmark or mariners.
